ASEAN Supports Thai Bid For Top U.N. Post
Josephine Roque - All Headline News Staff Writer Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (AHN) - Malaysia's foreign minister said that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) supports fellow member's candidate bid for the U.N. secretary general's post. Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Surakiart Sathirathai met with the ASEAN foreign ministers as part of his run for the United Nations post. Kantathi Suphamongkhon, Thailand's foreign minister, told the AP that more than 130 countries at the U.N. have voiced support for Surakiart. "We will continue to press forward," he added. The ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting held earlier this week will be also host Asia's biggest security forum on Thursday. In attendance will be U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and foreign ministers of China, Japan, South Korea.
