Indonesia Ready To Send Troops To Middle East For Peace
Som Patidar - All Headline News Staff Writer Jakarta, Indonesia (AHN) - Indonesia said Saturday that it is ready to send troops to the Middle East under a UN mandate to restore peace in the region. In this regard, Indonesia Foreign Ministry Spokesman Desra Percaya informed that the Indonesia military was prepared to send one battalion to the Middle East as soon as United Nations Security Council issued a resolution establishing a peacekeeping force for the region, the Jakarta Post reports. He told reporters, "Only when the UN has issued a peace accord and the Security Council has passed a resolution to form a peacekeeping force can we join it. That's why President Yudhoyono has written to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan asking him to quickly issue a resolution." Israel began its massive offensive against Hezbollah on July 12 after the Shiite militant group seized two soldiers in a deadly cross-border raid.
