Thousands To Attend Saturday Rally Denouncing Israel MidEast Offensives
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent London (AHN) - Organizers say thousands of people are expected to troop to the streets of London on Saturday to protest the relentless bombings of Israel in Lebanon which they say is threatening to escalate into a full-blown invasion. Rallies are expected to happen from London in the southeast to Glasgow and Kirkcaldy in the north. Andrew Burgin of Stop the War Coalition said they are expecting some 10,000 from London to participate in the march. He told Agence France-Presse, "We are calling for an unconditional ceasefire, for Israel to stop bombing the Lebanon and that is why we are marching today." Israel's overwhelming sea, land and air strikes in Lebanon has already killed more than 350 people mostly civilians and destroyed most of the countries infrastructure. On Saturday, Israeli ground troops captured two Lebanese towns near the border. The protestors were also angry at Israel's continued military strikes in Gaza which have already claimed the lives of at least 106 Palestinians. Another rally organizer said, "Israel's war in Gaza and Lebanon is escalating into an international crisis which could soon engulf the whole region. The promise by (US President George W.) Bush and (British Prime Minister Tony) Blair in the lead up to the Iraq war that their wars would bring freedom and democracy to the Middle East and peace to Palestine, have yet again been shown |
