India: Israel's Disproportionate Retaliation Unjustified
Jacob Cherian - All Headline News Staff Writer New Delhi, India (AHN) - Indian officials said on Thursday there could be no justification in the "continued incarceration" of Ministers of the Palestinian National Authority and members of the Palestinian Legislative Council. The External Affairs Ministry spokesperson was quoted by the Hindu newspaper, "We call upon Israel to release them immediately. We also reiterate our call for all parties to renounce violence and resolve their difference through peaceful means." New Delhi affirmed it remained "deeply concerned" with large-scale Israeli operations in the West Bank and Gaza in "disproportionate retaliation" for the abduction of an Israeli soldier. The Congress Party has also expressed its concern on Thursday over the "serious aggravation" of the situation in Lebanon in a separated statement. The Congress statement reads, "The consequent destruction of infrastructure and the mounting humanitarian crisis warrants urgent attention of the U.N. Security Council and intervention of the international community." The Communist Party in India has gone a step further, asking the government of Manmohan Singh to work out a plan on imposing international sanctions against Israel for its aggression in Lebanon endangering of the lives of thousands, including approximately 12,000 Indians.
