Baghdad Enforces Traffic Ban To Curb Violence
Josephine Roque - All Headline News Staff Writer Baghdad, Iraq (AHN) - The Iraqi capital of Baghdad enforced a daytime traffic ban in ongoing efforts to restrain violence. Recent mosque bomb attacks have killed two people and injured four. The ban, had been originally ordered on Fridays to prevent attacks on mosques during weekly prayers. U.S. military forces are in search of senior al-Qaeda in Iraq members. During the efforts, two alleged militants were killed and 23 injured. Officials say they "regretted" the civilian deaths. The traffic ban ends at 1900 local time (1700 GMT), two hours prior to the daily night-time curfew. The BBC says after a bloody week with car bombings and sectarian killings in and around the capital, Friday has so far been quieter. This month figures show that 1,000 bodies have been brought to the Iraq city mortuary. The majority, eighty percent, were due to violence.
