Castro Urging Mercosur To Conserve Energy
Matthew Borghese - All Headline News Staff Writer Cordoba, Argentina (AHN) - Cuban President Fidel Castro addressed the Mercosur regional trade alliance summit in Argentina, explaining that energy conservation could help promote Latin American economic growth. Castro says, "If anyone doubts that you can make fabulous savings, I will demonstrate it." The summit includes nations Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and newly signed Venezuela, while Chile and Bolivia were invited as associate members. Another topic at the meeting was the fate of Cuban communism when Castro dies. The Cuban leader turns 80 in August, and explains, "You see, everyone is talking about my death. They have wanted to kill me a hundred times... They wanted to decapitate the revolution, but I made the necessary effort for there to be no problem if anything happened to me."
