Matthew Borghese - All Headline News Staff Writer Kirkuk, Iraq (AHN) - Raids across Iraq have captured over a dozen terrorists amid a new offensive in Kirkuk. U.S. troops, working with the Iraqi Army, have surrounded and entered the cities of Hawija and Riyadh, just west of Kirkuk, in a simultaneous operation aimed at netting al-Qaeda terrorists unaware. The raids came after Sunni Arab leads asked the national army to put an end to the attacks which have killed 31 soldiers in the past five weeks alone. According to the Pentagon, in other news from Iraq, Iraqi army soldiers from 5th Battalion, 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, found a newly nade improvised explosive device while conducting a patrol south of Baghdad. While the soldiers were investigating the bomb, terrorists opened up with small arms fire. The soldiers returned fire, and the terrorists fled. The Armed Forces Press Service reports the Iraqi army soldiers pursued them and caught 12 suspects. The soldiers traced wires that led to the device and believe it was not yet armed. The explosive device was removed without causing injury or damage.
