Tremors Reported In In Java, China & Pakistan
Jacob Cherian - All Headline News Staff Writer Jakarta, Indonesia (AHN) - An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale took place in West Java, Indonesia on Wednesday. The epicenter was in Ujung Kuloon, about 15-km west of Jakarta. The quake follows a tsunami in the southern coastal areas of Java on Monday that has already left hundreds of people dead. The tremor took place around 6 p.m. on Wednesday. It looked like it was connected to the one that occurred on Monday. The head of the Meteorology and Geophysics service in Serang, West Java, EdiKelana told Ankara news agency, "It is possibly the continuation of the previous quake and it is categorized as a strong quake." However, there were no immediate reports of damage. In addition, an earthquake measuring 5.6 jolted a county in northwest China's Qinghai Province at 5:53 p.m. (Beijing Time) on Wednesday. The China Seismological Bureau reported the epicenter was located in the Qinghai-tibet Tlateau, about 70km south of the county of Yushu. Another moderate quake hit an area along Pakistan's border with Iran. No damages were reported there as well. According to Nasir Mahmood an Assistant Meteorologist at the Seismological Center in Peshawar, said that tremor measured in magnitude of 5.1 and hit at 4:27 a.m. It was centered about 1,200km west of the northwestern city of Peshawar.
