Coalition Forces Retake Two Districts From Taliban
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Kabul, Afghanistan (AHN) - Combined coalition and Afghan troops entered the Naway capital and Garmser after securing the two districts from Taliban guerrilla fighters had overrun earlier. The Afghan flag was once again hoisted in the government headquarters of the remote districts of Garmser and Naway-I-Barakzayi in Helmand province that the Taliban was able to capture during a minor skirmish Monday. Afghan defense ministry spokesman General Mohammad Zahir Azimi said, "The Afghan army hoisted the flag of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Naway district yesterday (Tuesday) and in Garmser today (today). Only two soldiers were wounded." Surprisingly, the government forces met very little resistance when they entered the towns. Witnesses say the Taliban fled the area before the coalition forces arrived and prevented what is expected to be an intense battle. A statement from the coalition force reads, "The police station and a school had been damaged by the extremists and many school books were destroyed. Two caches of mines and rocket propelled grenades were left behind by the fleeing Taliban." Hundreds of troops are now scouring the area to look for the militants.
