China Flood Toll Hits 198
Jacob Cherian - All Headline News Staff Writer Changsha, China (AHN) - The death toll from the rainstorms and floods triggered by tropical storm Bilis has climbed to 198 in China. Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu on Tuesday urged concerned departments of the Government to heighten their efforts with respect to flood control management and disaster relief. The Chinese Government considers the flood control situation its top priority and is stepping up its difficult task of safeguarding people's lives. Mr.Hui said during an inspection tour in the Hunan Province, the worst-hit province has accounted for 92 deaths. Additionally, more than 100 are missing and 400,000 are displaced or affected. Mr.Hui is also the head of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters. He visited several flood-hit counties and cities. Furthermore, he called for settlements and shelters for the affected people while reconstruction of homes destroyed by the floods resumes. The Vice-Premier said the Government at all levels, needs to take effective measures to deal with safety issues during the flood season.
