Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Yangon, Myanmar (AHN) - Pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi was prevented by Myanmar's military ruler from attending a rite that will honor his father and other independent leaders on Wednesday. The military junta locked the 61-year-old leader in her home. Suu Kyi, a recipient of the Nobel Peace prize, has spent 10 of the last 17 years under house arrest after the junta has accused her of plotting to overthrow the government. Just like last year, the Nobel peace laureate was barred from the ceremonies although she was allowed to participate in the previous years. Her National League for Democracy (NLD) party was also stopped by the regime from attending the rites which was to be held at the capital Yangon. National police chief Khin Yee and culture minister, Lieutenant General Khin Aung Myint laid wreaths at a mausoleum of General Aung San, who was assassinated in 1947 together with members of his cabinet. The nationalist hero and eight others were shot in a plot originally hatched by pre-World War II political leader U Saw.
