Power Failure Shuts NY Subway Service
Shaveta Bansal - All Headline News Staff Writer New York, NY (AHN) - According to New York's subway agency, some of the services carrying morning hours rush to and from busy sections of the city were shut down on Tuesday due to a power failure. The agency gave no immediate explanation for why the power failed. The New York City Transit said, service on the west side of Manhattan and in the borough of Brooklyn was disrupted from about 9:30 a.m. because there was no power to the signals. Specifically, service on the No. 1 train was shut down south of 137th Street in Manhattan to its terminus at South Ferry, the No. 2 train was running on the east side of Manhattan instead of its normal western route and all service on the No. 3 train from Manhattan to Brooklyn was suspended. The day before, a power failure stalled a subway train in Queens, leaving dozens of sweltering passengers stranded in the summer heat on an elevated track for nearly two hours. The city's subway system carries some 4.7 million passengers on a typical weekday. New Yorkers have been on alert during this week's heat wave, fearing a repeat of the massive 2003 blackout.
