Unknown Group Claim Mumbai Bombings
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Bombay, India (AHN) - A shadowy but little-know group is claiming responsibility for the Mumbai train blasts as it warned of more attacks against government and historic sites in India. Yahoo News reports that an e-mail was sent to Indian Television Aaj Tak by Lashkar-e-Qahhar, vowing more attacks and providing videos to prove they were responsible for the bombings which have killed 207 people and injured dozens more. In the e-mail, the group said at least 16 people planned and implemented the July 11 attacks in Mumbai. It said one Lashkar member was killed during the explosions. But Indian investigators are still verifying the authenticity of the e-mail and the claim. Lashkar-e-Qahhar, which translates to "Army of Terror," was virtually unknown when in March 7, it claimed to have bombed the Hindu holy city of Varansi that claimed the lives of 20 people. The e-mail which was signed by a certain Abu Mahaz who also claims as the group's spokesman said, "We are surprised, why some media groups and peoples are disclaiming our responsibility?" "Therefore it has become necessary for Lashkar-e-Qahhar to prove our claim. Very soon, we will send you an audio/video tape regarding Mumbai blasts." Authorities believe the group is just a front of Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, a Pakistan-based Islamic militant fighting for independence over Kashmir.
