Filipina Told Court She Was Raped By A US Marine
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Makati, Philippines (AHN) - The Filipina who has charged four US servicemen of rape has told the court she was raped, during an intense 40-minutes of cross examination by the accused lawyer. "Nicole", a court appointed name, said Friday, "I was raped. But I never told the security guard (at the Neptune Club) that I was raped. I was ashamed." Entering its 23rd day into the trial and Nicole's fifth appearance before the Makati Regional Trial Court, says she returned to the Neptune Club early morning on November 2 after Marine Lance Corporal Daniel Smith allegedly raped her inside a van several hours earlier. She said she went back to the club to look for Smith and his four companions who were later identified as Lance Corporals Keith Silkwood and Dominic Duplantis, and Staff Sergeant Chad Carpentier. The 22-year-old native of Zamboanga City told the guard at Neptune that Smith did a "bad thing" to her. MRTC Judge Benjamin Pozon asked her to explain what she meant, she replied, "I was raped. But I did not tell the guard." In her testimony, Nicole said Smith dragged her into a van and forced himself on her. His three co-accused allegedly cheered him on while he was raping her. Atty. Patricia Formoso, counsel for Smith, conducted the cross examination.
