Taiwan Rebuilds Lives Of Landslide Victims
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Leyte, Philippines (AHN) - The Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (Teco) has pledged $100,000 to build 12 classrooms in two school buildings in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte in the Philippines, site of the gruesome landslide five months ago which claimed the lives of 1,200 people. Teco representative Dr. Hsin-Hsing Wu flew to Southern Leyte to attend the ground breaking ceremony and capsule laying of the soon-to-be constructed Taiwan School of San Francisco, Southern Leyte. Southern Leyte Gov. Rossete Lerias accepted the donations which was coursed thru the Manila Economic and Cultural Office. The Inq7.net reports the school will be finished in three to four months. At the same time, Lerias expressed her gratitude to Gawad Kalinga (GK) a Catholic-based non-governmental organization which provides free housing to impoverished communities. At least 50 duplex residential units will be constructed in Liloan town which will be called the GK Energy Village to provide housing to those displaced by the landslide.
