Super Typhoon "Bilis" Batters Taiwan, Heads To China
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Taipei, Taiwan (AHN) - Typhoon "Bilis" (Philippine codename: Florita) hammered the island of Taiwan with torrential rains and strong winds before heading towards southern China and leaving one person dead and two others missing. The Associated Press reported "Bilis" hit landfall near the northeastern port of Ilan early morning Friday where it weakened into a tropical storm Officials said a man was electrocuted in the capital during the height of the storm while two fishermen were reported missing after their fishing boat ran aground off the Matsu Island. Weathermen said the storm also caused several landslides that affected traffic flow in central and eastern Taiwan. Although there is reported serious injuries. Fu Teh-rong of the Central Weather Bureau said although "Bilis" has already left Taiwan's area, its outer band would still continue to affect the country with heavy rains in the next two days. It is expected to hit landfall near the Fujian Province Friday. "Bilis" left a swath of destruction in northern Philippines as the death toll rose to 14 and number of missing to seven.
