Lebanon Calls For Israeli Cease-Fire
Nji Che - All Headline News Staff Writer Beirut, Lebanon (AHN) - Lebanon on Friday called for a cease-fire after Israel resumed its air raids on Beirut's international airport, while Hezbollah missiles continued to hit northern Israel. The call came as Israeli warships and planes struck a runway at the airport hours after it was repaired from previous attacks. A parking lot near the terminal of the airport was also struck in the latest attack. The Lebanese military said Israeli forces struck fuel tanks at the Zahrani power plant south of Beirut, as well as a road linking Haboush and Iqlion el Tufah in southern Lebanon. Meanwhile Hezbollah militants launched 20 rockets into northern Israel. The Israel Defense Forces admitted the rockets damaged property but did not cause any casualties. Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora met in Beirut with ambassadors from the United Nations Security Council to address the crisis. After a telephone conversation with President George Bush, the AP quotes Siniora as saying, "President Bush affirmed his readiness to put pressure on Israel to limit the damage to Lebanon as a result of the current military action, and to spare civilians from harm." Israel has accused Lebanon for the violence and maintains it must release its soldiers.
