Israel Set Up Blockade Off Lebanon Coast
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - The Israeli navy has set up a blockade off the coast of Lebanon to prevent ships from leaving and docking into Beirut. Israeli warships are also preventing the delivery of basic necessities into the capital, including fuel used in the operation of the country's power plants. The blockade came as the Israeli Defense Force (IDF)stepped up its military offensive deep into Lebanon in their search for two soldiers captured by the Hezbollah militants. Israel has attacked roads, bridges, airports and identified Hezbollah's bases as well as weapons-storage facilities. Israeli Jet planes and artillery fire struck the Rayak Air Base near the Syrian border and a military airport in Qulayaat in northern Lebanon. The al-Manar television station, which Israel accuses of being used by Hezbollah to incite and recruit activists, was also hit by its war planes. Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Daniel Ayalon told BBC, "We will have to continue with the operation until there is no capability of the Hezbollah to do what they are doing." There is also fear Israel might again invade southern Lebanon. Hezbollah is seeking a prisoner-exchange deal with Israel. A proposal that was immediately rejected by Jerusalem.
