10 Dead, 2 Missing As "Florita" Leaves Philippines
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Manila, Philippines (AHN) - The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) of the Philippines has confirmed that 10 people have been killed, while two children are still missing after typhoon "Florita" hit the region. "Florita" (international codename Bilis) battered the country Thursday before heading off towards Taiwan. The NDCC reported 22,763 persons displaced in the cities of Baguio and Laoag and the provinces of Mountain Province, Benguet and Ilocos Norte. Baguio and Laoag cities have already been placed under a state of emergency, as well as the provinces of Ilocos and La Union. A report by the Inq7.net said several roads and bridges in the northern regions have been damaged and is impassable to all traffic due to floods and landslides. The typhoon also damaged millions of pesos in agriculture after the farms were submerged under waist-high floods. But residents in the area are being warned, by disaster officials, to take refuge on higher ground as the flood water is expected to rise further when the Binga and Ambuklao dams in Benguet exceeds capacity.
