Bush Explores German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Political Home
Joanna Wypior - All Headline News Staff Reporter Trinwillershagen, Germany (AHN) - Putting domestic and international issues aside for a moment, President George Bush along with First Lady Laura Bush, took the opportunity to slice a roast pig at a barbecue with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Bush earlier said that he was looking forward to the barbecue, which took place in the northeastern German town of Trinwillershagen, Merkel's political home. The President and the First Lady arrived in the Baltic town north of Germany's capital Berlin aboard the Marine One helicopter. "Laura and I come from Texas," Bush told his host German Chancellor Angela Merkel, according to Reuters. "One of the greatest compliments you can pay a guest is to have a barbecue." Afterwords, Bush and Merkel enjoyed the company of a red-coated band playing a medley of songs like "Hooray for the Red, White and Blue." Bush himself took the conductor's wand and led the band for a few notes while a crowd looked on. Nearby, a wild boar was turning slowly over flaming beds of coals, compliments of local restaurant owner Olaf Micheel. During an earlier press conference with the two leaders on Saturday, while they discussed issues such as the Middle East and Iran, Bush mentioned several times how he had hoped to roast a pig at their barbecue.
