U.S. Getting Frustrated Over N. Korea's Nuke Program
Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Beijing, China (AHN) - U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill said talks with North Korea to immediately desist from its nuclear program and return to the negotiating table are not getting anywhere and Chinese diplomats are growing extremely frustrated over their mission. In an interview with CNN, Hill said the high-level Chinese mission sent to Pyongyang on Monday reported no positive development when they met with their North Korean counterparts. He told CNN, "They have no positive news whatsoever." The U.S. government has been urging China to play a more active role in seeking to halt North Korea's nuke program and return to the six-nation disarmament talks. The parties include Japan, South Korea and Russia. But Pyongyang has been consistently rejecting the offer and insisting on a one-on-one dialog with the U.S., a suggestion rejected by the Bush administration. Washington has increased its alarm over Pyongyang's nuke program when it launched seven missiles on Wednesday which landed safely off the Sea of Japan. It is the position of the White House that the missile tests pose danger to many countries including U.S. territories.
