Update: Israel Attacks Beirut Airport
Ankit Gupta - All Headline News Staff Writer Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - An Israeli aircraft attacked two runways at Beirut international airport, expanding the conflict with Lebanon after Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers and murdered eight. A total of six rockets were fired at the runways of the airports forcing the airport to close and divert flights to the airports in the Middle East. While the extent of damage is still not clear, the airport's terminal and planes were not hit. Israel follows up the attack on the airport after the air strikes against targets in villages in southern Lebanon that killed at least 10 civilians and a policeman and wounded dozens of civilians. Israel vowed a severe response to Hezbollah's cross-border attack on Israeli forces. The Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's cabinet held Lebanon responsible for the attacks and for the safe return of the seized soldiers, but it offered no details about what type of action would be taken. Meanwhile, Hezbollah said it fired shells and rockets at three command centers inside north Israel and attacked Israeli border posts. Dozens of air strikes hit Lebanon destroying 12 bridges and killed 2 civilians and a Hezbollah fighter as well as disrupting fixed-line communications between Beirut and south Lebanon. Also, the air and sea strikes destroyed south Lebanon's road network.
