Malaysia's Queen Tengku Creates Beauty School
William J Brown - All Headline News Staff Kelantan, Malaysia (BANG) - Malaysia's Queen Tengku Anis Tengku Abdul Hamid has set up a cosmetic salon to train underprivileged women as beauticians. The royal has reportedly assigned her personal beauty therapists to work in the location and teach young women from poor backgrounds their trade. The salon - set up in the country's poorest state of Kelantan, is an attempt to save young women from being drawn into country's booming prostitution trade which has attracted worldwide interest. The project is the first of its kind in the Islamic state, which has so far exercised strong control over women's personal freedom. Apart from cosmetic procedures, the spa - which promotes motto "Beauty Is A Woman's Top Asset" - offers massage classes, hair care training and salon management lessons. Tengku Zarina Tengku Din, manager of the initiative, was quoted on MyWestTexas.com as saying: "Many girls from rural areas migrate to Kuala Lumpur to look for jobs and end up working in bars or nightclubs. Our queen wants to teach these girls a trade so they can earn a living and avoid being caught in vice." Tengku also said she was thrilled to witness the birth of such democratic profession in the Muslim state.She said: "We want to train a new generation of Muslim beauticians."
