Russian Airbus May Have Crashed Due To Failed Breaks
Jacob Cherian - All Headline News Staff Writer Moscow, Russia (AHN) - Russian news agencies reported Sunday that the Siberean plane crash that killed 122 people may have been due to failed brakes as the plane landed. It was the country's second worst airline disaster in the last two months. Early reports by investigators at the scene of the crash confirm the brakes may have failed on the Airbus A-310. The airbus was operated by Russian airline, S7. The flight was carrying 201 passengers from Moscow to Irkutsk. Fifty-eight people were injured. Transport Minister Igor Levitin said the pilot had communicated to ground control that the aircraft had landed safely. Shortly after, radio signals were cut off. Levitin told Russian state television, "There was rain, and the landing strip was wet. So we'll have to check the clutch and the technical condition of the aircraft." He also confirmed the aircraft's two recorders had been recovered and were being looked at.
