Twin Brothers Could Hold Top Positions In Poland
Megan Shannon - All Headline News Staff Writer Warsaw, Poland (AHN) - Twin brothers will hold the top two positions in Poland--President and Prime Minister. This is the first time any country has had brothers in the top two jobs. Jaroslaw Kaczynski turned down a nomination to prime minister last year saying it would be wrong for he and his brother, President Lech Kaczynski, to hold the positions at the same time. Jaroslaw identified that there is some danger to having two brothers in such powerful positions but other candidates for prime minister were not right for the job. However this year he decided his candidacy was best for Poland. He said, "There is a certain risk for the president and prime minister to be brothers, that was the major roadblock. But for various reasons, we came to the conclusion that, at this time, putting forward a different candidate - of which we have many good ones - would be a worse way out than recommending me. The party leadership put forward a proposal, and I accepted it." He accepted the nomination following current Prime Minister, Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz resignation to run for the mayor of Warsaw in November, a position formally held by Lech before he was elected president. Marcinkiewicz will step down Monday. Some are not taking the brothers' decision lightly.
