Media Reports: US Officials Failed To Investigate Haditha Claims
Som Patidar - All Headline News Staff Writer Baghdad, Iraq (AHN) - United States Marines officers failed to investigate conflicting reports on the deaths of Iraqi civilians in the Haditha last year, media reports said on Saturday. The second-ranking US commander in Iraq, Lieutenant General Peter Chiarelli, has written a report on the Haditha incident, which is due to be released officially. "The report found there was no effort to correct an inaccurate US military press release, which repeated the initial false report that civilians were killed by a roadside bomb all 24 people were killed by gunshot wounds," reports CBS News. Quoting US defense officials NYT said: "Lt. Gen Chiarelli has recommended unspecified disciplinary action for some officers." Iraqi officials accuse US Marines of shooting up to 24 people in Haditha, after a Marine was killed in a roadside bomb attack.
