Indian Female Lawmaker Survived Sixth Attempt On Her Life
Som Patidar - All Headline News Staff Writer Srinagar, India (AHN) - Sakina Itoo, 36, a female lawmaker in India's Jammu and Kashmir region, survived a sixth attempt on her life on Saturday when separatist guerrillas threw a grenade, but five other citizens were killed and nearly 30 other injured. The police official told a news channel that militants made a grenade attack on Sakina, when she was coming out of a shrine in Kulgam. Meanwhile, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place in Kulgam, 65 km (40 miles) south of Srinagar. Violence has increased in the Jammu and Kashmir in recent months as summer melts snow in the region's mountain passes, allowing easier movement of militants, Reuters reported.
