Bus Explosion In Trans-Dniester Kills 8, Injures 46 In Moldova
Yvonne Lee - All Headline News Staff Reporter Chisinau, Moldova (AHN) - A passenger carries a bomb onto a bus in Trans-Dniester, setting off an explosion that kills eight people and injures 46 others. Ruslan Mova of the Trans-Dniester police says authorities are investigating how the bomber got the device and what the motivation was for the attack in the separatist region. Mova tells the official Olvia Press agency, "The destruction was amplified by fragments of metal wire in the bomb." The roof of the bus was blown off by the blast. Twelve passengers total were traveling in the vehicle. Eight of them, including the bomber, were killed and four others seriously injured. Bystanders and passengers on a nearby bus were also injured. Viorel Ciubotaru, a military analyst in Moldova, tells The Associated Press, "The bomb was probably going to be used in an attack on a rival criminal group." Outbreaks of violence taken place since Trans-Dniester broke away from Moldova in 1992. The international community does not recognize the breakaway province.
