Gunmen Seize Guard At Nigerian Oil Rig
Mary K. Brunskill - All Headline News Staff Writer Lagos, Nigeria (AHN) - The Nigerian navy announced on Thursday armed men raided an offshore oil rig in southern Nigeria and seized a security guard. On Wednesday afternoon, the men arrived in speedboats at a rig drilling for Nigerian Consolidated Oil, navy spokesman Captain Obiora Medani said. They told the company they came from Sangana, a nearby community, and accused Consolidated Oil of failing to meet terms of an agreement to help provide them with jobs and local amenities. They then seized a retired navy officer working as a security guard. At time of publication Consolidated Oil officials were not immediately available for comment.
