One Dead As Bombs Rock Kabul; 35 Militants Killed
Ankit Gupta - All Headline News Staff Writer Kabul, Afghanistan (AHN) - Three powerful bombs rocked the Afghan capital, killing one and wounding at least 47 others. The second round of blasts - raised fears that violence roiling the south and east of the country could be spreading to the capital amid a spike in attacks by resurgent Taliban militants. Meanwhile, Coalition forces continued their hunt for Taliban fighters in the south, killing 35 suspected militants during a raid in the village of Gujdar in Helmand province. The first blast in the capital occurred at 7:15 a.m. local time, when a remote-controlled bomb targeted an Afghan National Army (ANA) bus in downtown Kabul, wounding 39 people on board, the Defense Ministry said. Police said the bomb had been hidden in a garbage container on the street. The blast sent the bus veering out of control and it crashed nearby. All wounded were taken to a military hospital and were listed in stable condition. A second bomb hidden in a hand cart exploded 15 minutes later in northern Kabul as a bus carrying Commerce Ministry employees drove by, killing one bystander and injuring eight others. Five of the wounded were inside the bus, which was carrying 16 ministry workers, said government worker Noor Hak Stanezai, who had been aboard.
