Rains Ease African Drought
Hector Duarte Jr. - All Headline News Staff Reporter Horn of Africa (AHN) - Following a severe drought, the Horn of Africa has finally received a good rainy season. U.S.-based Famine Early Warning System says a large section from southern Sudan to Somalia had regular rains during the first months of the year. However, they warned many farmers had lost large numbers of their cattle; damage which would take years to recover. The food situation throughout the Horn of Africa remains consistently insecure. The study suggests climate changes could make the situation much worse. In the worst affected areas, on the border of Kenya and Somalia, low rates of milk production have also been reported.
