Six Colombian Police Killed In Guerrilla Attack
Hector Duarte Jr. - All Headline News Staff Reporter Bogota, Colombia (AHN) - Colombian officials say six police officers were killed and three wounded following a guerrilla attack on a mountain base in the southwestern portion of the country. The victims died in a blaze of gunfire and pipe bombs, which authorities say were launched by Farc rebels. Farc and the government have been at each others throats for more than forty years. The base was located on a very strategic route across the Andes that connects three Colombian departments. Angelino Garzon, governor of the Department of Valle, where the attack occurred, told the BBC,"We regret that six policemen have died and three more have been wounded. This attack by the Farc does not achieve anything." The Farc announced last month it was willing to negotiate with the government if President Alvaro Uribe ended U.S.-supported campaigns against them. Uribe insists he will never quell operations against rebels and traffickers.
