Nji Che - All Headline News Staff Writer Moscow, Russia (AHN) - Six Russian soldiers were killed on Tuesday after they clashed with suspected Chechen militants. More than 10 other soldiers were wounded in the incident that occurred near Grozny. According to a Chechen prosecutor, an ambush took place on a road between Avtury and Serzhen-Yurt. Valery Kuznetsov told Interfax news agency, "The column was ambushed in the Shali district in the afternoon. Six died from wounds. More than 10 suffered wounds." The incident was reported just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Russian military was not on the offensive in Chechnya. Putin tells reporters, "There are outbursts of terrorist actions, but no combat actions in Chechnya." He added that local security and law enforcement forces were in control of the region. Chechnya has seen two violent conflicts over the last 12 years, between Russian forces and separatist militants.
