20 Suspected Militants Killed In Afghanistan
Hector Duarte Jr. - All Headline News Staff Reporter Kabul, Afghanistan (AHN) - U.S.-led coalition troops in Afghanistan say they killed 20 suspected militants after a clash in the southern region. The military tells the BBC militants attacked a coalition patrol in the southern province of Helmand on Sunday. Meanwhile, a coalition soldier was killed after a helicopter crash in Kandahar province. Enemy fire was ruled out as the cause of the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter going down. A coalition official says the helicopter was responding to a reported rocket attack. A coalition soldier was injured during the crash that occurred Sunday night. The nationalities of the dead soldier and the injured have yet to be released. According to a spokesman, no one was killed in the reported rocket attack. A major offensive is currently taking place against militants in the south and east of Afghanistan. Two coalition soldiers were wounded during Sunday's battle with militants in the Sangin district of Helmand. The patrol had finished a search operation when almost 30 militants attacked it with small arms and mortar fire. Spokesman Lt. Col. Paul Fitzpatrick told the BBC, "Afghan and coalition forces continue their successful attacks on extremists in selected areas of southern Afghanistan to deny the enemy sanctuary."
