Two Killed, 150 Injured In Bangladesh Protests
Siddique Islam - All Headline News Foreign Correspondent Dhaka, Bangladesh (AHN)- Two people, including a police officer, were killed and over 150 injured in sporadic violent clashes in Bangladesh during the opposition's countrywide road-rail-waterway blockade on Sunday that also badly affected normal life and business. Abul Bashar, a sub-inspector of police, succumbed to his head injuries when he was hit by brickbats thrown by activists enforcing the blockade at Sonargaon, about 30 km from the capital, police said. Awami League activist Golam Mostafa Milon, 45, was killed in police firing at the city's Mohakhali area, hospital sources said. He was taken to a nearby clinic but doctors there referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he was declared by the attending doctors. Later, police took his body to Gulshan police station and took it to the DMCH. The six-hour blockade was enforced across the country from 9am (local time) by the Awami League (AL) led 14-party opposition alliance demanding resignation of the 3-member election commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Bangladesh Justice MA Aziz for his controversial role, especially in preparing a new voter list.
