India To Release 38 Pakistani Prisoners
Ankit Gupta - All Headline News Staff Writer New Delhi, India (AHN) - India plans to release 38 Pakistani prisoners languishing in Indian jails on June 30 at the Wagah border, reported the Press Trust of India sources. The move comes in view of the understanding between the two nations and the India-Pakistan Home Secretary- level talks held under the composite dialogue process on May 30 and 31 in Islamaabd. These prisoners have completed their sentences and their nationality has been verified by the Pakistan High Commission here, an Indian Home Ministry spokesman said on June 29. "Necessary directions have been issued by the government to the concerned state authorities in this regard," he said. The government has also decided to grant consular to all eligible Pakistani civilian prisoners and fishermen lodged in various jails to facilitate their repatriation to Pakistan immediately after completion of their sentences and confirmation of their nationality, the spokesman said.
