Dutch Government To Resign
Matthew Borghese - All Headline News Staff Writer Amsterdam, Netherlands (AHN) - Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende says his government will resign after a political coalition member party withdraws its support. D66, the smallest partner in the ruling coalition, withdrew after Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk threatened former politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali with revoking her passport, following false information she gave in 1992. Ms. Verdonk, known for her tough stance on immigration, threatened the Somali-born Hirsi Ali, 36, with deportation. Hirsi Ali wrote a film about women in Islam, which was directed by Theo Van Gogh, who was later murdered by a Muslim extremist. With the PM delivering the resignation on Friday, elections could be held as soon as October.
