Israeli Tanks Enter Southern Gaza To Recover Kidnapped Soldier
Matthew Borghese - All Headline News Staff Writer Gaza City, Gaza (AHN) - Israeli ground forces, including tanks, have crossed the southern border with Gaza, near Kerem Shalom, in an effort to recover a soldier who was kidnapped, Sunday. Israeli fighter jets launched airstrikes destroying a power plant in Gaza City, as well as at least three bridges, in an effort to cut off and isolate the location of militants they believe have captured 19 year old Cpl. Gilad Shalit. Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) left much of Gaza City without power in a pre-incursion airstrike, which Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, has warned Palestinians will be an "extended campaign" against "all targets." According to an IDF spokeswoman, recovering Shlalit is the "only concern" of the incursion, and will do its "very best" to avoid civilian casualties. Before Israel's parliament, the Knesset, PM Olmert declared, "We would not make compromises with terror. We would not hold negotiation with [terror]," and "no terrorist would be immune," in the incursion. Only nine months since the return of the Gaza strip to Palestinian control, Israel has blockaded it from land and sea; restricting trade and travel.
