Multinational Force: Iraqi Reconciliation Process "Can Heal The Nation"
Nji Che - All Headline News Staff Writer Washington, DC (AHN) - A spokesman for the Multinational Force in Iraq says Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's national reconciliation and dialogue process marks the beginning of a healing process in the country. Mr. Maliki announced the plan on Sunday in a move to reduce sectarian violence and spur national unity and reconstruction of the country. Army Maj. Gen. Bill Caldwell told a news conference in Baghdad, "The prime minister launched a process by which all Iraqis can heal, the nation can mend, and the future can be written in the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people." The new initiative includes all Iraqi citizens. It is based on economic policies that would create more opportunities for everyone in the country and solve the basic problems of electricity, water, employment and education. The process does not extend to amnesty for terrorists, but it offers pardon to criminals who were not involved with terrorism or crimes against humanity. The initiative intends to embrace them in the process of national reconstruction. Caldwell called on the Iraqi people to be part of the process saying, "I urge the Iraqi leaders to move expeditiously in implementing this project."
