Hector Duarte Jr. - All Headline News Staff Reporter Manila, Philippines (AHN) - At least five people are dead and ten others injured after an explosion rocked the southern Philippine island of Mindanao. Police say the blast struck a busy market in the town of Shariff Aguad. According to the BBC, no one has yet to claim responsibility for the blast, but police said Andal Ampatuan, governor of Maguindanao province, appears to have been the primary target. Mr. Ampatuan, an ally of President Gloria Arroyo, was driving past the market when the bomb went off. He was not hurt by the blast. Mindanao is the heartland of the Philippines' small Muslim minority. The country is majority Christian. Both Islamic and communist rebels have been engaged in battles on the island for several years.
