Saddam Ends Hunger Strike After Skipping A Meal
Shaveta Bansal - All Headline News Staff Writer Baghdad, Iraq (AHN) - A U.S. military spokesman on Friday said that former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein had ended his brief hunger strike after skipping just one meal. Hussein had refused his lunch Thursday in protest at the killing of one of his lawyers by gunmen. The spokesman told Reuters that former Saddam aides, who had been on hunger strike since Wednesday, also ate their evening meals. The tyrant leader and his aides are held in the same U.S.-run prison. Saddam is on trial for 1982 genocide. He is charged with crimes against humanity for his role in the killings of 148 Shiites in Dujail. On Wednesday, Saddam's lead counsel, Khalil al-Dulaimi, blamed pro-government Shiite militias for the murder of his deputy Khamis al-Obaidi on Wednesday.
