10 Civilians Killed In Basra After Bomb Blast
Nji Che - All Headline News Staff Writer Basra, Iraq (AHN) - Iraqi police say more than 10 civilians were killed on Friday when a car bomb exploded near a gas station in the city of Basra. Witnesses said they saw several bodies that were transported after the incident. The U.S. military reported it had captured a senior al Qaeda militant early Friday. The militant was held in Baghdad; near the area were slain terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a U.S. military air raid two weeks ago. The statement added that three insurgents were arrested on Monday near Baghdad. The military withheld the name of the senior militant who was captured but maintained he had been facilitating the task of foreign fighters in the country. Insurgent attacks have surged in Iraq over the last two weeks. Three U.S. marines were killed Tuesday when a roadside bomb struck their vehicle. A fourth died from gunshots while carrying out security operations in Iraq's Anbar province.
