Major Factions In Somalia Agree To Halt Military Advance
Matthew Borghese - All Headline News Staff Writer Mogadishu, Somalia (AHN) - Two two main factions in Somalia have agreed to end offensive military campaigns, a key breakthrough reached by peace talks being held in Sudan. Both the government and the rebel group, the Union of Islamic Courts, that has seized control of the capital, have agreed to the deal. Somalia's government and the Islamic group that controls the capital have agreed to end military campaigns at peace talks in Sudan. According to the Arab League, which is sponsoring the talks, the two parties have agreed to the military halt, as well as an end to the media campaigns against each other. Both parties have agreed to meet again in July, to continue the path to peace. The conflict has left Somalia without an effective national government for over a decade and a half.
