Iraqi Militants Kill Missing U.S. Soldiers
Nji Che - All Headline News Staff Writer Baghdad, Iraq (AHN) - Iraqi officials on Tuesday announced they had recovered the bodies of two slain U.S. soldiers who were announced missing on Friday, and later confirmed kidnapped on Monday. An Iraqi militant group linked to al-Qaeda said it had held the two U.S. soldiers who were reported missing on Friday. According to the group's message posted on a militant Web site on Monday, the soldiers were being held in the south of Baghdad. The two soldeirs were abducted during last week's massive crackdown to root out insurgents in the Iraqi capital. The U.S. military identified the missing soldiers as Kristian Menchaca and Thomas Tucker, both from the 101st Airborne Division. They were attacked by insurgents while at the checkpoint they were manning. Since Friday, U.S. and Iraqi forces had searched for the victims. Divers searched the Euphrates River while American aircrafts combed the region surrounding Yusufiya, an al Qaeda stronghold in the south of Baghdad. The Web statement read, "The American army, using different kinds of machines and armor, raided the area where the incident took place but the army of 'the world's strongest country' returned without success, humiliated."
