Journalist Killing Sparks Protest
Josephine Roque - All Headline News Staff Writer Islamabad (AHN) -The kidnapping and murder of a local reporter has sparked journalists to rally and boycott government proceedings. The local reporter, Hayatullah Khan, was investigating the death of a key Al-Qaeda operative. Journalists in Islamabad demonstrated outside parliament and boycotted the parliament and a weekly foreign ministry briefing to press for demands including for the arrest of Khan's killers reports AFP. "We will continue our protest till the time all our demands are accepted by the government," Aroosa Alam, a senior journalist and acting president of Rawalpindi-Islamabad Press Club told the AFP. In the Pakistani city of Multan, reporters raised their voices outside the local press club, chanting slogans like "killer, killer, government killer" and "Protect journalists in the tribal region." Pakistan's largest city Karachi and the eastern city of Lahore also held related protests. It is suspected that the killers were pro-Taliban militants and who also operated on Pakistan's intelligence agencies.
