Iraqi Militants Kidnap 2 U.S. Soldiers
Nji Che - All Headline News Staff Writer Dubai, U.A.E (AHN) - An Iraqi militant group linked to al-Qaeda says it has abducted two U.S. soldiers who were reported missing on Friday. According to a message posted on a militant Web site on Monday, the soldiers were held in the south of Baghdad. The statement read, "Your brothers in the military wing of the Mujahideen Shura Council kidnapped two American soldiers near Yusufiya," adding, "We will provide you with more details about the incident in the next coming days." The soldiers were abducted during last week's massive crackdown to root out insurgents in the Iraqi capital. The U.S. military identified the missing soldiers as Kristian Menchaca and Thomas Tucker, both from the 101st Airborne Division. They were attacked by insurgents on the checkpoint they were manning. Since Friday, U.S. and Iraqi forces have been searching for the victims. Divers have searched the Euphrates River while American aircrafts have also made several trips in the region surrounding Yusufiya, an al Qaeda base in the south of Baghdad. The militant statement said, "The American army, using different kinds of machines and armor, raided the area where the incident took place but the army of 'the world's strongest country' returned without success, humiliated."
