Russia Looks To Join WTO, Despite U.S. Objections
Matthew Borghese - All Headline News Staff Writer Moscow, Russia (AHN) - Russian President Vladimir Putin says his country's bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) may be decided soon. President Putin is hopeful Russia could become a WTO member, overcoming the objections of the United States. The U.S. has come down on Russia's nomination, citing a poor human rights record, among other issues. Putin says, "Unfortunately, the position of the American negotiators changes often and they return to questions that we thought had been solved earlier." "This does not correspond to established practice." Russia is keen on getting into the WTO prior to the start of the G8 summit it will host in St. Petersburg.
