Hamas: Ready For Ceasefire With Israel
Nji Che - All Headline News Contributor Gaza, West Bank (AHN) - A Hamas government spokesman says his government is ready to observe a ceasefire with Israel, and will issue a call to stop Palestinian militants from firing rockets into Israeli territory. The statement adds that Israel must first suspend its military raids in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The news came a week after Hamas militants broke a cease fire deal with the Jewish state. The spokesman told Israeli Radio, "We are ready to launch discussions with factions over stopping rocket firing but only if there is an Israeli commitment to cease all military attacks against all Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank." A few days back, a senior official of Israel's ruling party threatened the Jewish state would assassinate the Palestinian Hamas leader, Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, if he failed to stop militants from carrying out terrorist strikes across Israel. The Hamas government took power in March after they beat the Fatah movement at the poll. Since then, they have come under severe financial crisis after the international community cut its funding to the Palestinian Authority.
