Nji Che - All Headline News Contributor Kabul, Afghanistan (AHN) - 27 Taliban fighters were killed during two separate clashes with Afghan and U.S.-led foreign forces on Sunday night, the Afghan military announced Monday. The clashes occurred at the Deh Rawood and Panjwai districts, both found in the troubled south of the country, where 15 and 12 Talibans were killed respectively. A senior military official said a brother-in-law of Mullah Mohammad Omar, the fugitive Taliban leader was among victims. Reuters quotes the military commander saying, "Most probably, Amanullah, the brother-in-law of Mullah Omar, who was also keeping his finances, was also killed." Close to 1000 people have been killed in Afghan violence this year. The death toll reached its pick in May when 400 people were killed according to the U.S. and government figures. Insurgents in the country have vowed to overthrow the U.S.-backed government of President Hamid Karzai.
