Iraqi Officials Consider Talks With Insurgents
Nji Che - All Headline News Contributor Baghdad, Iraq (AHN) - Iraqi authorities are currently considering the possibility of holding reconciliatory talks with guerillas across the country. Authorities will meet with invited insurgent groups leaders to take part in the reconciliatory talks. A source from the Prime Minister's office said the talks have been scheduled for July 22. The Shi'ite-led government of national reconciliation has come under pressure from Sunni insurgents who have vowed to topple the U.S.-backed regime. Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has ruled out dialogue with Saddam's followers. Maliki claims the deposed leader's followers; alongside other extremist groups have blood in their hands. Sunni leaders say there would be no peace in the country unless the government considers peace talks with the guerillas.
